ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates must be:
- Aged 19+
- A West Midlands resident
- Must be earning less than £34,500 if employed or self-employed
- Living in the UK for over 3 years, or have Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK
- Individuals under the Ukrainian settlement or similar scheme are also eligible
Purpose & Overview
This qualification provides an introduction to the knowledge and skills needed to work in health and social care. It is suitable for learners who are considering a career in care services and want to build a foundation before progressing to Level 2 study or employment.
The course covers communication, equality and inclusion, safeguarding awareness
and understanding of care roles within different settings.
Mandatory Units
Learners must complete the following mandatory units:
- Understand the Range of Service Provision and Roles Within Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Introductory Awareness of Person-Centred Support in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Understand the Principles and Values in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Introductory Awareness of Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Awareness of Protection and Safeguarding in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Introduction to Communication in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Introductory Awareness of Health and Safety in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
These units provide a foundation understanding of working within care environments
and professional expectations.

Learners must also achieve the required credits by selecting from optional units, which may include:

Progression
On completion, learners can progress to:

Delivery and Assessment
You’ll complete practical assessments and build a portfolio of evidence.
