ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates must be:
- Aged 19+
- A West Midlands resident
- Must be earning less than £34,500 if employed or self-employed
- Living in the UK for over 3 years, or have Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK
- Individuals under the Ukrainian settlement or similar scheme are also eligible
Purpose & Overview
This qualification is designed to prepare learners for employment within adult social care. It provides essential knowledge, values and understanding required to work safely and effectively in care settings.
The course supports progression into roles within residential care, domiciliary care and supported living environments.
Mandatory Units
Learners must complete the following mandatory units:
- Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care
- Understand the Role of the Social Care Worker
- Introduction to Duty of Care in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Principles of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in Adult Social Care Settings
- Understand Person Centred Approaches in Adult Social Care Settings
- Principles of Communication in Adult Social Care Settings
- Principles of Personal Development in Adult Social Care Settings
- Understand Health and Safety in Social Care Settings
- Understand How to Handle Information in Social Care Settings
These units provide the core knowledge required to work professionally and responsibly within adult social care services.
Optional Units
There are no optional units for this qualification. All units are mandatory and must be successfully completed to achieve the certificate.
Progression
On completion, learners can progress to:
- Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
- Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care
- Apprenticeships within health and social care
- Employment as a care assistant, support worker or domiciliary care worker
Delivery and Assessment
You’ll complete assessments and build a portfolio of evidence to show your understanding.
Tasks are designed to be engaging and supportive, with ongoing assessment from your tutor throughout the course.
There are no formal exams. Your progress is assessed through your coursework and written assignments.
