ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates must be:

Aged 19+
A West Midlands resident
Must be earning less than £34,500 if employed or self-employed
Living in the UK for over 3 years, or have Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK
Individuals under the Ukrainian settlement or similar scheme are also eligible

Purpose & Overview

This qualification is designed for learners who want to develop practical skills and knowledge in cosmetic make up application and beauty consultancy. It prepares learners for roles within beauty retail, cosmetic counters, make up services and customer advisory positions.

The course combines technical make up skills with product knowledge, customer service and retail techniques, supporting progression into employment or further specialist beauty qualifications.

Mandatory Units

Learners must complete the following mandatory units:

Apply Make Up
Instruction on Make Up Application
Client Care and Communication in Beauty Related Industries
Follow Health and Safety Practice in the Salon

These units develop practical make up skills, product knowledge and the ability to advise and sell beauty products professionally.

Optional Units

Learners must also achieve the required credits by selecting from optional units, which may include:

Provide Eyelash and Brow Treatments
Display Stock to Promote Sales in a Salon
Promote Products and Services to Clients in a Salon

Progression

On completion, learners can progress to:

VTCT Level 2 or Level 3 Beauty Therapy qualifications
Specialist make up artistry qualifications
Employment in cosmetic retail, make up artistry, beauty consultancy or salon environments

Delivery and Assessment

You’ll learn through a mix of practical salon based activities and real world beauty scenarios to develop your make up and consultation skills.

You’ll complete practical assessments and build a portfolio of evidence to show your skills and knowledge.

Tasks are designed to be engaging and supportive, with ongoing assessment from your tutor throughout the course.

There are no formal exams. Your progress is assessed through your practical work, coursework and assignments.
