  • Purpose & Overview

    This course provides an introduction to essential Functional Skills in English and maths, alongside key digital skills needed for everyday life, further study, and employment. It is suitable for learners who want to improve their core skills and build confidence before progressing to higher-level study or work.

    The course covers communication, numeracy, and digital skills, helping you develop the ability to apply these in real-life and workplace situations. You will build confidence in reading, writing, problem-solving, and using technology effectively to support your personal and professional development.

    Optional Units

    There are no optional units for this course.

    Progression

    Once completed, learners will receive a Certificate of Completion for Functional Skills, as well as a certificate for their vocational course. They can progress to the next level in both the Functional Skills and Vocational courses.

    For example, if you complete Functional Skills English Entry 1 and Customer Service Level 1, you can progress to Functional Skills English Entry 2 and Customer Service Level 2.

    Delivery and Assessment

    You’ll learn through speaking, listening, reading and writing activities when studying Functional Skills English and practical maths activities when studying Functional Skills Maths to develop your skills for everyday life, work and further study.

    You’ll complete assessments to demonstrate your skills in each area.

    Tasks are designed to be engaging and supportive, with guidance from your tutor throughout the course.

    You will complete externally set assessments for both Functional Skills English and Functional Skills Maths.
