  • ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

    Candidates must be:

    • Aged 19+
    • A West Midlands resident
    • Must be earning less than £34,500 if employed or self-employed
    • Living in the UK for over 3 years, or have Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK
    • Individuals under the Ukrainian settlement or similar scheme are also eligible

    Purpose & Overview

    This qualification provides an introduction to the knowledge and skills needed to work in health and social care. It is suitable for learners who are considering a career in care services and want to build a foundation before progressing to Level 2 study or employment.

    The course covers communication, equality and inclusion, safeguarding awareness
    and understanding of care roles within different settings.

    Mandatory Units

    Learners must complete the following mandatory units:

    • Understand the Range of Service Provision and Roles Within Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
    • Introductory Awareness of Person-Centred Support in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
    • Understand the Principles and Values in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
    • Introductory Awareness of Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
    • Awareness of Protection and Safeguarding in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
    • Introduction to Communication in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
    • Introductory Awareness of Health and Safety in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings

    These units provide a foundation understanding of working within care environments
    and professional expectations.

    Optional Units

    Learners must also achieve the required credits by selecting from optional units, which may include:

    • Introduction to Children and Young People’s Development
    • Introductory Awareness of Working With Others in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings

    Optional units allow learners to explore specific areas of interest within the sector and broaden their understanding of care practice.

    Progression

    On completion, learners can progress to:

    • Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
    • Level 2 Health and Social Care qualifications
    • Apprenticeships within health and social care
    • Entry level roles in care support settings

    Delivery and Assessment

    You’ll complete practical assessments and build a portfolio of evidence.

    Tasks are designed to be engaging and supportive, with internal assessment throughout.
