Rahima Maaref
From Language Teacher to Career Builder: Rahima’s Journey
Rahima joined EBCF after moving to the UK from Algeria, where she had spent five years teaching Arabic and French to young children. Although she held a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management and later specialised in teaching languages, she faced challenges getting into work here, as her overseas qualifications weren’t
recognised.
She discovered EBCF at a local open day and enrolled on a Level 1 Customer Service course at our Alum Rock Training Centre. With support from tutors and her own determination, Rahima built her confidence, adapted her communication skills, and gained a recognised UK qualification.
Through EBCF’s community-focused approach and employability support, Rahima developed a clearer understanding of the UK job market and the steps she needed to take to re-enter education and work. After completing her course, she secured a part-time teaching role at South & City College, delivering Quran and Arabic lessons
to children.
She now plans to continue her journey by progressing onto Level 2 Customer Service and finding full-time work.
Rahima says:
“EBCF believed in me when I wasn’t sure how to start again. The support and training helped me find my confidence and get back into teaching, even in a new country. I’m grateful for this second chance.”
Her journey shows how education, when rooted in community and inclusivity, can lead to real opportunities. With the right guidance, learners like Rahima are building new careers and giving back to the communities they now call home.
