Safeguarding

Safeguarding Every Learner, Every Day.

At EBCF, safety isn’t just a policy; it’s a promise.
We are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and protected from harm.

What Does Safeguarding Mean?

Protection & Prevention

Safeguarding is about protecting learners, staff, and vulnerable individuals from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. It means creating an environment where everyone is safe to learn, grow, and thrive without fear.

Committed to Safety and Wellbeing

At EBCF, we have a legal and moral duty to ensure the wellbeing of all individuals who engage with us. Every person who works at EBCF is trained to recognise signs of concern and to act appropriately and swiftly.

Safeguarding at the Heart of Everything We Do

Safeguarding is not just a policy – it is embedded into everything we do. It covers physical safety, emotional wellbeing, online safety, and protection from radicalisation and extremism.

“We believe every learner deserves a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. Our safeguarding team is always here to listen, advise, and act – no concern is ever too small to raise with us.” – DSL

Pastoral Support

  • Our Pastoral hubs are based centrally at both centres. We can offer additional support in times of need, aside from you academic or employment journey.
  • Through our partnerships with the DWP and West Midlands Multibank we can not only fund your provision – including travel – but provide household essentials to support families.
  • Please see our display boards for local charities and places of worship.

Our Core Commitments

A Safe Learning Environment

We maintain a caring, inclusive, and secure atmosphere so every learner can study, participate, and grow free from worry or harm.

Always Here to Listen

Our safeguarding team is accessible, approachable, and available. No matter how big or small your concern, we are ready to support you.

Trained & Competent Staff

All staff at EBCF are trained to recognise safeguarding concerns and understand how to respond in a way that protects individuals and upholds the law.

Confidentiality with Care

We handle all concerns with sensitivity and confidentiality. Information is shared only on a need-to-know basis or where the law requires us to act.

Online Safety

We support learners in understanding and navigating online risks, including cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and grooming.

Compliance & Governance

Our safeguarding practices are fully aligned with the Care Act 2014, safeguarding adults legislation, and all relevant statutory guidance for further education and training

Counter-Extremism

The Prevent Duty

As a registered training provider, EBCF has a statutory duty under the Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015 to implement the Prevent Duty. This means we work to protect learners from being drawn into terrorism or extremist views.

Prevent is about early intervention-spotting vulnerability and providing the right support before harm occurs. It is part of a wider government counter-terrorism strategy called CONTEST.

The official referral form can be found here via Birmingham City Council:

PREVENT – National referral form | Birmingham City Council

Once you have completed this form it is essential that you submit it to the police directly, or your DSL or equivalent will do this on your behalf. Where possible you will receive a response on your referral, but this is not always possible due to data-protection considerations and other sensitivities.

Signs We Look Out For

  • Changes in behaviour, views, or language
  • Accessing extremist content online
  • Expressing sympathy for extremist
    causes
  • Withdrawing from friends, family, or learning
  • Expressing a desire to travel to conflict
    zones
  • Being targeted or manipulated by others online
